The river ebro is without doubt the most prolific
catfishing venue in Europe. From lake Caspe, Mequnenza, Riba Roja down to
the delta area, catfish are making headlines in the angling press on a
regular basis. The delta area around Amposta is less featured than most,
and at the moment does not suffer the same angling pressure. The wide slow
moving river is less prone to serious flooding, and the temperate climate
of the region enables the catfish to feed most of the year.
Bank fishing in the area is difficult, swims are limited due to dense
riverside bamboo, and the few available are heavily fished. Boat fishing
is by far the best option, with miles of quiet river at your disposal.
A typical day catfishing on the boat will start about 9 am, possible
earlier in July and August. The fishing will be varied and interesting,
from fishing known patrol routes or hotspots at anchor, or drifting, this
could be in the margins or mid river, depending on conditions and recent
results.
The tackle you will be using, is top quality and user friendly. Shimano
6500 reels loaded with 100lb power pro braid, and 30lb class 8ft boat
rods. Hook lengths are kevlar with owner hooks.
Once you are fishing with mullet, carp, eels or other baits be prepared
for a take at any time, often when you least expect it. The take can be
explosive or gentle and until you tighten into the fish you have no idea
of the size. If you hook into a good fish, you then realise why we love
catching these ebro catfish.
Enjoy a safe comfortable days fishing, on a 17ft fully equipped dory.
With padded seats and plenty of legroom, a must for those long days on the
river. Twin four stroke engines, and electric motor for drifting. First
